In an age such as ours, which seeks to raise awareness ofpollution and excessive waste, it is important to set out to try to minimize the waste of resources, and convert them into something useful for the improvement of our health and that of theenvironment. In this case, since we are in a space dedicated to our beloved citrus fruits, we are going to talk about how to use them outside of the gastronomic sphere and use them to clean the house, discovering that there are numerous home remedies that allow us not only to avoid waste, but also to eliminate chemicals.

CITRUS PEELS FOR HOME REMEDIES

Once you have peeledlemons, oranges and tangerines, their peels will prove most useful for polishing stoves, cutlery and dishes, which will become shiny, fragrant and even disinfected as the fragrant peels pass through. On the other hand, if you want to refurbish the bottom of your coffee pot, simply pour water, coarse salt and add chopped lemon peels into it and let it sit for a few. Same thing for removing the annoying limescale that ruins our appliances: bring hot water to a boil in which you have previously dipped lemon peels, add half a glass of vinegar and leave it for a few hours… You will notice how the limescale dissolves, almost as if by magic!

DIY CLEANSER WITH CITRUS FRUITS

If you are a lover of organic detergents, here is how to create one you will never be able to do without again! To prepare an excellent citrus cleanser, all you need to do is take the peel from four or five oranges, lemons or tangerines, to which 300ml of warm water, 300ml of white vinegar and 300ml of alcohol should be added. Let the mixture sit for a week, and after this time has elapsed you can transfer it to a container with a sprayer and use it like a common degreaser, to wash glass or kitchen tiles. For an even deeper action you can add baking soda: the scent that will be released will be great and definitely non-polluting.

DIY DECORATIONS WITH CITRUS PEELS

Have you ever thought of using the fragrant peels of oranges and tangerines to create delicious decorations? All you need to do is let the peels dry on a radiator or near a stove to smell how their excellent fragrance will waft through your home! Afterwards, you can store them in a glass jar or perforated bag and then lay them inside closets and drawers to scent your clothes. Another great and easy-to-make idea is to use the peels of oranges to create scented candles: after eating the pulp, cut off the lower portion of the orange being careful not to remove the central stem. After filling the cavity with vegetable oil, the stem will act as a wick, and the candle will be ready to light up your rooms and fill them with delicious citrus notes!
