Mandarins: Characteristics, Curiosities and Tasty Recipes
The mandarin belongs to the rutaceae family and, of all citrus fruits, is the sweetest because of its high sugar content. It is a typical fruit of the winter seasons, beginning in fact to appear in the fields around December protracting until March. The fruits inside are in the form of juicy small segments, with orange-colored flesh and thin skin, easy to remove and very fragrant. Generally, mandarins are eaten fresh, but they are also very popular when enjoyed in very tasty jams with a distinctive citrus flavor that is lively and very sweet.
Nutritional properties When it comes to nutrients, the tangerine is positioned at the top, being a citrus fruit very rich in vitamin C, exceptional in the prevention of cold diseases, and vitamin A and retinol, a good for our eyesight; let's not forget the P vitamins, usually concentrated in fruits and vegetables, famous as they would protect the brain and improve intellectual performance. We also find numerous minerals including magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron and bromine, known to promote relaxation and sleep. It is therefore a very nutritious fruit, easily digestible and considered suitable in turn for aiding digestion.
Calories Tangerines have a considerable concentration of sugars (10.58 g per 100 g), making these foods quite caloric (53 Kcal per 100 g). In addition, the concentration of citric acid can create laxative effects. Excessive consumption of tangerines is not recommended, however, because of their significant caloric intake.
