Vanilla Oranges Medium Caliber / Edible Peel
Known to be the quintessential “sweet oranges,” Vanilla Oranges belong to the blonde orange family.
With a characteristic sweetish and slightly sour flavor, these oranges get their name from the distinctive fragrance, which is reminiscent of vanilla. They are clear-skinned and very thin-skinned oranges. They are often used in the preparation of desserts and cold dishes, because they manage to transfer a very intense smell to the dish. Their harvest period is from December to April of the following year, with some small variations depending on the method of cultivation.

Curiosities about Vanilla Oranges
The history of the vanilla orange has a fairly ancient origin. It is said to have been introduced to Italy from China-or from the Indies-around 1400. It reached Sicily almost immediately, adapting to the high local temperatures and soil. The Vanilla Orange variety Apireno, comes from the gem mutation of the Seeded Vanilla, also grown in the same area. One of the most interesting characteristics of the vanilla orange, is precisely its aroma.
The delicate smell of vanilla is associated with the thin peel of this orange, completely transforming the fruit and making it distinctly more inviting.
RECIPE: ORANGE VANILLA POPSICLES
One must first prepare syrup with 100 ml of water and 50 g of sugar. While the syrup cools, oranges must be squeezed to obtain about 150 ml of juice. Once the juice has been strained through a fine-mesh strainer, it can be combined with the already cooled syrup. Place the mixture in popsicle molds with a wooden stick and place them in the freezer until completely frozen.
