The dragon fruit or pitaya is a tropical fruit that we are not yet used to seeing in Italy and arouses much curiosity. According to an ancient Chinese legend it is a real dragon egg. The Pitaya marketed on our site grows by our partner producers in the province of Ragusa. It presents a fuchsia or whitish flesh with small black seeds. It has a sweet, persistent and delicate flavor that is somewhat reminiscent of kiwi, pear and prickly pear.

Stories tell thatq this particular and very sweet fruit was used during fights by legendary fire-breathing dragons who would expel it upon death. Once victory was won, the Dragon Fruit was taken as a gift to the emperor. The dragon was sacrificed so that the flesh would give the soldiers its strength and ferocity.
