The Verdello lemon is recognizable by the characteristic deep green color of its peel, the protagonist of the so called “third bloom” of the Syracuse s femminello. Let’s discover some of the main characteristics of this wonderful summer fruit: from mid-August until October, the lemon plant performs a second flowering – we could really say that it blooms again -, giving birth to lemons called precisely verdelli. This type of fruit possesses excellent organoleptic properties, as well as an abundant pulp content with a slightly sour taste, rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It is one of the most commercialized varieties due to as many as four months of continuous availability! The richness that this citrus fruit is able to produce for our territory has led it to take the name of green gold: the cultivations of Sicilia Agrumi are protagonists of this production, making us happy to offer you Verdello of excellent quality, proudly grown without the use of any chemicals!
CURIOSITY
In the past, lemon plants did not enjoy naturally “re-blooming” varieties, so specific techniques were used to overcome this lack. The technique practiced was called forcing: the plants were not irrigated for the entire month of July to induce a state of water stress, at which point abundant watering was then carried out. This procedure literally induced the lemon plant to flourish again in the summer.
Important: Verdello is the only type of Sicilian summer lemon! It follows that the other types are necessarily imported.
